As many of you know, a substantial portion of our family travels are funded through the use of frequent flyer miles and points. I’ve been a long time reader of the many bloggers in this space – The Points Guy, View from the Wing, One Mile at a Time (read about the time I went to dinner with Lucky/Ben from One Mile at a Time), and many more.
Now that I have a family of four, the miles and points game has changed for me. We have just started buying our 10 month old his own airplane seat now that he is crawling and pulling up (note: once the little ones can move, lap children are not a good idea for longer flights). So we are now facing a future of four airline seats on every flight. Earning miles to cover seats for four people is hard enough. Finding award seats for four is even harder.
That’s why I’m so glad to see the miles and points community’s rapid expansion in the past year or two. There are now many miles and points bloggers who approach the hobby from many different perspectives. And one of these new perspectives is miles and points for families with kids! I now read quite a few family travel miles and points bloggers, and have found their advice invaluable for planning my own family’s travels.
With the help of the bloggers I know via Twitter, we’ve compiled a list of the miles and points bloggers who have kids and who often post about the frequent flyer miles aspects of family travel. You can subscribe to this list of family travel miles and points bloggers on Twitter so you never miss a post.
I also wanted to highlight a few bloggers with some particularly unique credentials as well:
- Mommy Points: Mommy Points is definitely a pioneer in the family travel and miles and points space. For some time, she was the lone mom on the big travel blog network, Boarding Area, and I’ve been reading her for about 3 years. Her daughter and mine are about the same age, so our travel patterns matched up quite nicely for awhile (at least before my husband and I decided to add Baby #2 to our traveling family!)
- The Deal Mommy: Dia, better known as The Deal Mommy, is blazing new trails in the family travel world. Sensing a need for more miles and points advice catering to traveling families, she went out and started her own conference, Family Travel 4 Real Life, to meet that need. Be sure to sign up if you can be in the DC area at the end of August. The Deal Mommy also has two older kids, which means she has to fit her travels around school schedules. I’m finding her advice especially valuable now that my daughter is starting kindergarten in the fall.
- Points With a Crew: Points With a Crew is a fairly new blog, but he gets special kudos from me because he travels with 6 kids. I’m continuously impressed.
Have we missed anyone in the family travel + miles and points space? Do you know of new bloggers I should add to our Twitter list? Share your thoughts in the comments.
