California’s Great America WinterFest: Holiday Theme Park Family Fun

Winterfest at Great America - Entrance at Daytime

Special holiday events have become increasingly popular at amusement parks across the country. My home theme park in Northern California – California’s Great America in Santa Clara – has joined the ranks of celebrating the winter season with a special event of its own. The park’s holiday celebration, WinterFest at Great America, is only in […]

A Wild West Getaway in Old Sacramento, California

Old Sacramento - Historic Gold Rush Buildings

I’ve partnered with Holiday Inn through ShopShare Network for this sponsored post. All opinions are my own. Like many travel writers, I am often so driven to explore far-flung destinations that I forget to travel close to home. My family has been on a mission to remedy that! This year, we have prioritized taking day and […]

Great Pumpkin Fest at California’s Great America: Tips for Fall Family Visits

Great Pumpkin Fest Californias Great America - Entrance

Regional theme parks tend to celebrate Halloween by scaring the living daylights out of guests. Horror Nights and Fright Fests and the like cater to teens and adults, but the little ones are often left out of the Halloween fun. Luckily, there is something special for younger kids at one of Northern California’s largest theme parks, […]

10 Amazing Fall Destinations in California for Families

Top Fall Destinations in California - Julian Apple

Tourists flock to California in summer, but fall in the Golden State is one of the best times of year to visit. We may not quite have the breathtaking fall foliage of New England, but California has fall fun all its own to offer. All the inland locations that are too hot to visit during […]

50 Things to Do in Oakland with Kids

Things to Do in Oakland with Kids - Oakland Zoo Entrance

Take it from a California local. San Francisco may get all the glory but the East Bay is the place to be for families. Cheaper prices, warmer weather, and more kid-friendly attractions is why many families like mine have chosen Oakland, Berkeley, and the surrounding Northern California towns to raise a family. I call the […]

10 Things to Do in Monterey, California with Kids

Things to do in Monterey, California with Kids - Cannery Row

This post is sponsored by See Monterey. All opinions are my own. The beautiful coastal town of Monterey, California is about as good as it gets as a family travel destination. Beaches, hiking, and a world-class aquarium make for a memorable vacation for travelers with kids. Less than a 2 hour drive from San Francisco, it […]

Visiting San Francisco’s Walt Disney Family Museum with Kids

Walt Disney Family Museum with Kids - Exterior

Think you need to go to Anaheim or Orlando to walk in Walt Disney’s footsteps? Think again. Disney history is alive and well in Northern California too. In fact, one of the most impressive collections of Disney memorabilia is on display in my hometown of San Francisco. The location? The Walt Disney Family Museum. Founded by Walt’s […]

Redding California with Kids: Exploring True Northern California

Redding California with Kids - Sundial Bridge Turtle Bay

I’ve lived in Northern California for over a decade. But calling San Francisco “northern” is a bit of a misnomer. There are hundreds of miles that separate the City by the Bay and the Oregon border. Like many Bay Area residents who seem to have a mental roadblock somewhere around the middle of Mendocino county, I […]

10 Amazing Spring Break Destinations in California for Families

Spring Break Destinations in California - Big Sur

About a little over a year ago, my family resolved to travel more of our home state of California. We realized we were jetting around all over the country and the world while missing out on amazing destinations right in our backyard. In fact, these were the very same destinations that many other people jetted […]
