Hire a Babysitter on Your Vacation

Many parents who travel with small children find that their vacation isn’t much of a vacation when they are chasing small children and having to adjust all their plans around naptime and early bedtimes.  One solution is to bring extended family with you on your travels (we invite grandmas whenever we can), but that isn’t […]

Time-Saving Tips to Skip Long Lines at Disneyland

Avoiding Long Lines at Disneyland

My husband and I have been big Disney fans for a long time, so we definitely looked forward to taking our little one down to Anaheim as soon as possible. What we did not look forward to was standing in Disneyland lines for hours and finding ourselves with a cranky toddler. Luckily, there are ways you […]

Bring vs. Rent: Carseats

My law school friend Lucy sent me a Facebook message today asking about a dilemma many parents traveling with children often face — do I bring my child’s carseat along as checked luggage or do I rent one along with my rental car?  (Note: If you are going on a trip to stay with family, consider whether […]

At the Airport: Coping with TSA

TSA Family Lane

Like many frequent travelers, I’ve found clearing airport security to be a bit of a challenge with a little one in tow.  Most of the hassles do not come from my toddler, however.  They come from the TSA — the oh-so-bright folks who create the maze of contradictory, unenforced, overinforced, and misenforced rules that govern […]

Bring vs. Buy: Large Infant Gear

Our daughter is the proud owner of five Pack N Plays.  Yes, this is ridiculous and expensive, but let me explain. My husband and I travel all over the country with our daughter and many of those travels are to visit family.  When our daughter was younger, she simply needed a place of her own […]

Track Your Tyke’s Travels

I’m an avid reader of the travel message boards on FlyerTalk, and was inspired awhile ago by a thread entitled “How Many Different Airlines Have you Flown.”  It occurred to me that I could never compile such a list for myself because many of my travels happened when I was a young child.  […]

Toddler Packing List for Airplane Carry On Bags

Toddler Packing List for Airplane Carryon Bags: Essential items for your toddler's carryon bag for your next airplane flight. Thinks to keep your toddler entertained, fed, happy, and quiet!

The biggest travel parenting mistake I’ve witnessed is parents simply being unprepared for traveling with their tots.  If you are traveling with an active toddler on an airplane, you need lots to entertain your little one packed in your carry on bag. After many plane flights with my daughter, I’ve developed extensive infant and toddler packing […]

Introducing Trips With Tykes!

Baby's First Flight

It was inevitable, I suppose. I’ve been traveling on an almost monthly basis with my three year old on airplanes since she was only three months old.  Those readers out there in cyberspace who know me personally know that my husband and I have maintained a baby blog for her over the years.  As time […]
